- Students are given many opportunities to critically analyze artworks and design and apply concepts to their work.
- Projects include self-portraits, cultural-community based collage designs, book jacket designs, and advertisements.
- One example… I use the work of Romare Bearden to inspire a digital cultural collage.
Cultural Collage
After critically analyzing Romare Bearden’s, The Block, students discuss, write and create a visual representation of their culture.

After discussion about book jacket purpose students sketched and designed original cover designs for books.
